Khanyile Mlotshwa

Khanyile Mlotshwa is a journalist, a writer and a PhD candidate (Media and Cultural Studies) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. He has taught media and communication courses at the Lupane State University (LSU) and the Catholic University of Zimbabwe (CUZ), both in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. His research interests lie where media and cultural studies intersect with popular, subaltern, resistant, radical and critical forms of politics, including feminist praxis. He is interested in representation and subjectivation, and the collision of neoliberalism and nationalism(s), on one hand; against popular, subaltern and decolonial practices and forms of cultural politics, on the other hand. For his PhD project, he is researching the constructions of black citizenship(s) in South African post-apartheid media practices, border practices and urban cultures.
